General DescriptionThe 25-item Portuguese version of the Dimensions of Identity Development Scale assesses exploration and commitment making dimensions of identity formation. It comprises four of the five scales of the original version measuring the identity dimensions of (a) commitment making (‘‘I have decided on the direction I am going to follow in my life’’), (b) exploration in breadth (‘‘I think about different things I might do in the future;”), (c) exploration in depth (‘‘I talk with other people about my plans for the future’’), (d) and ruminative exploration (‘‘I am doubtful about what I really want to achieve in life’’). Identification with commitment was not included as a separate dimension because, in previous U.S. research (Ritchie et al., 2013), a high correlation (r ¼ .86) between commitment making and identification with commitment was found. Items are rated on a 5-point Likert-type scale ranging from 1 – completely disagree to 5 – completely agree. Target population: adolescents and adults
